It is reported that, as early as 1944, Gen. Eisenhower
picked this building as the future home of Allied Powers Europe
once Germany was defeated. And so it came to be in 1945, with
intentionally virtually no bombing or strafing damage done to
the grounds. But notice the destruction directly across the street
in lower portion of photo. |
