PHOTO BELOW: The 3rd Armored was Powell's first
assignment after completion of ROTC (City College of New York)
and Basic Officer Training Courses at Ft. Benning, GA. Arriving
in Gelnhausen in December, 1958, the 21-year-old 2nd Lt. was
initially assigned as a Platoon Leader with "B" Company,
2nd Battalion, 48th Infantry Regiment, Coleman Kaserne. He is
shown below with his next assignment in the battalion - Platoon
Leader, 4th Platoon, "D" Company. |
