SP5 Rufus Priddy

The 15 photos below were each taken on Kodachrome film using a Kodak 3D camera which recorded two frames of the image on a single 35mm frame. Those two frames then gave a remarkable 3D effect when used with a binocular viewer, which, of course, we cannot provide here. Nevertheless, Priddy's photos (which he submitted to 3AD.com in 2009) are still excellent in 2D, and are only a small portion of the hundreds he took during his brief Army service, while "obsessed" (his word) with 3D photography. In subsequent civilian life, Texas-native Priddy worked for Shell Oil for 37 (+) years, including 3 (+) years in Saudi Arabia, before retiring with his wife Jo Ann to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. His obsession with photography, while shifting to 2D, has continued and has advanced well into the serious digital realm.

Priddy's photos below (all from 1957-58) include: various scenes of Ayers Kaserne buildings and parade grounds; several from Field Training Exercises (FTX's); M-48 tanks on display; M103 (120mm) heavy tanks (with turrets covered); and the Bremerhaven Point of Embarkation, which Priddy photographed from ship on his rotation back to the States.

SPECIAL NOTE: To see the eventual fate of the once great Ayers Kaserne, see photos taken in 2001 by Kirk Callesen and listed in the "Soldiers' Personal Collections" index.
