1963: 3AD Mass Formation - Hanau, Germany

3rd Armored troops and equipment were on display
on June 25, 1963, for President John F. Kennedy's visit to Fliegerhorst
Kaserne & Army Airfield just outside of Hanau. Kennedy came
to Germany at the height of the Cold War, and on the day following
the above photo he made his famous "Ich bin ein Berliner"
speech in Berlin. Immediately after taking office in 1961, he
and NATO faced a growing Soviet threat from eastern Europe. For
