in Cologne, Germany's main newspaper, the Kölner Stadt
Unzeiger, in separate articles on September 17, 2004, and
again on March 6, 2005, regarding the story of the capture of
the city on March 5/6, 1945, by U.S. forces lead by the 3rd Armored
Division. Shown above on their 2004 Europe trip are 3AD WWII
veterans (L to R): Aurio Pierro (B/32nd AR), Allen Knisley (391st
& 67th FA), Claude Wood (B/67th FA), Hap Paulson (C/703rd
TD), Bill Ruth (Maint/33rd AR), David Putnam (Maint/32nd AR),
and John Barkley (Maint 33rd AR). Missing vets from the tour
group were John O'Brien (B/32nd AR), Walter Stitt (E33rd AR),
Bill Heinz (C/83rd Recon), Russ Eick (486th AAA), and Larry Rourke
(C/Maint). |
