The Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen, Germany, in 1994
|
Below is the only remaining portion of the famous
WWII bridge that was captured by the U.S. 9th Armored Division
on March 7, 1945. Subsequently it was used in a mass crossing
of the Rhine by elements of the U.S. First Army, including several
units of the 3AD. Most of Spearhead, however, crossed the river
by way of a pontoon bridge at Honnef, south of Cologne. |
