PHOTO ABOVE: It's chow time outside Stolberg,
Germany, in the fall of 1944. Only a small portion of Russ' face
(including left eye) is visible near the center of the group.
This oversight can probably be explained by the fact that Spirounias
is in the photo (bottom right), leaving the camera in the hands
of a long-forgotten novice. Lighthearted meals would end for
the 3rd Armored, as it would soon find itself thrown into the
