Top Photo: The magazine caption reads: "Partly assembled V-2 in underground plant left standing thus when German scientists fled." The unit of the American M.P. guard is not identified but is probably the 3AD or a First Army support element, depending on when the photo was taken.

Lower Photo: Caption at right reads: "Slave laborers from the Nordhausen V-2 plant pose for Signal Corps photographers on the day following their liberation." Missile illustrations at left show the never-completed German A-9/A-10 (497,000 lbs. of thrust) compared with the largest operational U.S. rockets (in 1958): Atlas (360,000 lbs. thrust), Vanguard (27,000 lbs.), Redstone (75,000 lbs.) and Jupiter (135,000 lbs.).
