A mother sends a Christmas card to her son on Dec. 16, 1944.
He is killed the very next day in the Malmedy Massacre.
The card is eventually returned to sender.

Addressed to Lt. Lloyd A. Iames from Mattie Iames of Sacramento, CA

  Four 3rd Armored Division soldiers were among the eighty-four American POW's murdered by a German SS unit in a field outside of Malmedy, Belgium, on Dec. 17, 1944, at the start of the Battle of the Bulge. All four men were with Recon Co of the 32nd Armored Regiment. In addition to Lt. Iames, those soldiers were T/3 James McGee, Lt. Thomas McDermott, and Pfc. John Klukavy.
