War Department MIA Letter
|
NOTE: This is a follow-up letter from the War
Department, Washington, D.C., to the telegram of August 17, 1944,
in which Cynthia Christ of Palisades, NJ, was notified as next
of kin that Capt. Chris Brous was missing in action. The standard
wording of this letter, dated August 19, 1944, carries the hopeful
comment that "many persons reported missing in action are
subsequently reported as prisoners of war." That turned
out to be the case here, but was usually not the case. Note also
the reassurance in paragraph #3 that the soldier's pay will still
be coming to any dependents. |
