Shermans on landing craft for Normandy

A 3AD Sherman M4 and its crew is being backed
onboard a landing craft in an English harbor in June, 1944, for
the crossing to France. Most of the Division's M4's were fitted
with deep wading "trunks" (as shown above) to allow
them to be unloaded a short distance from shore. The trunks ultimately
were unnecessary as the landings could be safely performed directly
on shore. |
