This classic and apparently never-before-published
photo was contributed to this website in 2005 by Steve Corbo
of Summit, Illinois, a private collector of 3rd Armored Div.
and other military memorabilia. Steve is the nephew of 3rd Armored
WWII veteran Larry Maffia of Morton Grove, Illinois, who served
with Co D, 83rd Armored Recon Bn from 1941 to 1945. (Note from
bumper markings that the 3AD truck in the photo is from that
same company.) Steve acquired the photo some time in the 1990's
from Ed Vinicky of Illinois, also a 3AD WWII veteran (32nd Armored
Regiment). Close behind the truck is a jeep with a GI carrying
a Thompson sub-machine gun. The date and location of the photo
is unknown. |
